The former Fashion Mall site in Plantation would be redeveloped into Plantation Walk, with open-air retail, apartments and office space.
Aetna to move regional office to Plantation Walk
Health insurance firm Aetna will move its South Florida regional office to Plantation Walk, a $350 million mixed-use project.
The redevelopment of the former Fashion Mall in Plantation, the project will include a 160,000-square-foot office building as an extensive renovation of a previous building. Aetna (NYSE: AET) leased 85,000 square feet and will relocate its Sunrise office there in December. The office will house its commercial, Medicare, Medicaid and international divisions.
“Our move into this vibrant new development will be a great fit for our employees while providing a central location for our customers and members throughout South Florida and reinforcing our continued commitment to being part of the communities that we serve,” said Richard Weiss, Aetna’s executive director for Florida.
Plantation Walk will also have 700 apartments and 200,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space at 321 N. University Drive. Those elements are still under construction. There’s already a Sheraton hotel on-site.
“We are thrilled to have Aetna as the first tenant of our brand-new Class A office space at Plantation Walk,” said Arthur Falcone, CEO and managing principal of Encore Capital Management, the project’s developer. “Their employees will be at the center of our lives, work, play and stay development – offering them multiple options for dining, shopping, and meetings.”
